Sergio Leone’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly concludes the Dollars Trilogy

The cult classic Spaghetti Western “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” directed by Sergio Leone, is being highlighted as the final installment of his “Dollars Trilogy.” The film, set during the American Civil War, follows three men—Blondie, Sentenza, and Tuco—as they compete to find a treasure of 200,000 dollars in gold coins.

The production featured iconic actors Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach. During filming, Wallach reportedly faced dangerous circumstances that nearly cost him his life. The film is noted for its distinctive musical score by Ennio Morricone and its role in evolving the Western genre through a European lens.

Originally released in 1966, the film followed “A Fistful of Dollars” (1964) and “For a Few Dollars More” (1965). The trilogy was expanded from a two-film project after United Artists identified the financial potential of a third installment.
