Sergio Mattarella calls for global peace and shared responsibility
Italian President Sergio Mattarella has issued a message to Marco Impagliazzo, president of the Community of Sant’Egidio, regarding the international peace meeting in Assisi. Marking forty years since the historic 1986 meeting of religious leaders in Assisi, Mattarella emphasized the need for reconciliation and cooperation in the face of global conflicts.
The President specifically highlighted the humanitarian suffering caused by wars in Ukraine and the conflicts in Gaza and Palestine. He called for the inviolability of human dignity to become the primary measure of political behavior and the foundation of a respected international law.
While noting that the duty to sow the seeds of peace and rebuild equity and freedom rests primarily with governments and institutions, Mattarella stated that “nobody is exempt from doing their part.” He urged individuals to act with responsibility to combat indifference toward injustice and oppression.
