Sergio Mattarella calls for international cooperation against drug trafficking
Italian President Sergio Mattarella has issued a message regarding the opening of the Ecad meeting at the San Patrignano community, emphasizing that drug addiction is a challenge affecting public health, social cohesion, security, and the quality of democratic coexistence.
Mattarella noted that criminal networks organizing drug trafficking operate without borders, making rigorous international cooperation a duty for all states and the global community. He highlighted that the demand for substances, along with other dependencies such as alcoholism, gambling, and digital addiction, often stems from social distress, isolation, and fear of the future, particularly among younger generations.
The President stressed that no single national system is sufficient on its own and called for a common, constant, and lasting commitment between countries to support prevention, treatment, and reintegration efforts.
