Sergio Mattarella and Pope Leo XIV issue greetings for Jewish holidays

Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Pope Leo XIV have issued messages of greeting and reflection on the occasion of the Jewish holidays, including Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot.

President Mattarella addressed the Italian Jewish community and residents of the Jewish faith, emphasizing the need to cultivate dialogue, reconciliation, and mutual respect. He noted that in a historical moment marked by uncertainty and conflict, it is a collective duty to prevent the rise of new barriers between people and to uphold the values of justice, solidarity, and peace.

In a separate message, Pope Leo XIV sent a telegram to Rome’s Chief Rabbi, Riccardo Di Segni, and the wider Jewish community. The Pope expressed hope that the celebrations would bring blessings and joy, calling for peaceful renewal and mutual friendship. Additionally, the Diocese of Rome shared greetings for the Pope's second birthday, noting his commitment to peace and his reflections on global conflicts.
