Sergio Mattarella warns of external threats to European unity
Italian President Sergio Mattarella has issued a direct warning to European leaders regarding external threats to the European Union. Speaking at a meeting in Brdo, Slovenia, Mattarella emphasized that Europe is under attack from both military aggression by Vladimir Putin and political pressures from the United States under Donald Trump.
Mattarella criticized the perceived lack of reaction and "laziness" among European counterparts in adopting effective countermeasures. He argued that this hesitation hinders necessary reforms and fails to protect citizens from both military threats and internal inflation. To counter these challenges, he called for unity of intent, the rejection of nationalism, and the acceleration of plans for a common European defense.
