Sergio Maurício leaves Band after six years
Sports commentator Sergio Maurício has ended his professional relationship with the Brazilian broadcaster Band. The departure, described by both parties as a “common agreement,” terminates a contract that was originally set to run until 2030.
Maurício joined Band in late 2020/early 2021 to serve as the primary voice for Formula 1 coverage in Brazil. His departure follows the loss of Formula 1 broadcasting rights by Band, which have returned to the Globo group. In recent weeks, Maurício had been covering other events, such as the Saudi Arabian Football League, but the reduction in major motorsport programming contributed to the decision to seek new professional challenges.
A veteran of sports broadcasting, Maurício began his television career in 1991 at SporTV, where he spent nearly three decades. He is well known for his work on programs like “Tá na Área” and “Linha de Chegada.” While he has not yet announced his next destination, he has expressed interest in pursuing new projects in the digital market and other communication sectors.
