Sergio Muniz advocates for rare disease research

Actor Sergio Muniz has used a television appearance on the program ‘Le Iene’ to raise awareness about epidermolysis bullosa, a rare genetic condition often referred to as ‘butterfly skin’.

Muniz shared that his son, Yari, born in 2021 with partner Morena Firpo, was diagnosed after small blisters appeared on his body. The condition causes the skin and tissues to become extremely fragile, leading to blisters or lesions at the slightest physical contact.

Muniz emphasized the critical importance of public healthcare and scientific research, noting that medical advancements and support from associations have allowed his son to grow almost normally. He called for continued defense of public health resources to ensure hope for other families facing similar challenges.
