Sergio Perez criticizes F1 budget cap amid Cadillac struggles
Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez has expressed concerns regarding the current budget cap regulations, stating they disproportionately disadvantage smaller and newer teams. Speaking after the Singapore Grand Prix, the Cadillac driver argued that while the cap aims to prevent excessive spending, it actually widens the gap between top-tier teams and newcomers. He noted that established teams can implement larger updates more efficiently with the same budget, whereas smaller teams struggle with process efficiency.
Perez is currently facing a challenging season with Cadillac, a new entry that has yet to score points in the 2026 season. Following a 17th-place finish in Singapore, he acknowledged that fans may find it difficult to see him outside of podium contention, a stark contrast to his previous years with Red Bull Racing.
Looking ahead, Perez anticipates his upcoming home race at the Mexico City Grand Prix could mark his 300th Formula 1 start. While the team focuses on developing the 2027 chassis to secure future points, Perez emphasized the importance of continued support from his Mexican fanbase during this transitional period for the team.
