Sergio Pérez eyes first Q2 of season despite Monaco brake fire

During Friday practice for the Monaco Grand Prix, a brake‑failure caused a fire on Sergio Pérez’s Cadillac. The incident forced the team to retire the car early, but Pérez highlighted a promising overall performance.

Pérez finished FP1 in 14th place, two seconds off the Ferrari leaders, and was ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas. In FP2 he placed 18th, again close to the front runners. He noted the setback, saying “Lamentablemente tuvimos un fallo en los frenos,” but remained optimistic, stating that a few tenths of a second could make the difference and that the team hopes to reach Q2 for the first time this season.

The driver recalled a similar retirement two weeks earlier in Canada due to a suspension failure. He concluded that staying in the chaotic Monaco environment and delivering fast laps when it matters will be crucial for a potential Q2 appearance.
