Sergio Villarreal Barragán claims he delivered cartel money to AMLO
Sergio Villarreal Barragán, known as ‘El Grande’, has alleged that he personally met with Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his 2006 presidential campaign to deliver cash from the Sinaloa Cartel. These claims are part of interviews conducted by journalist Anabel Hernández for her upcoming book, ‘Narcocracia’, scheduled for release on August 24.
According to the testimony shared via Hernández’s ‘Narcosistema’ podcast, Villarreal claims that the then-candidate was aware of negotiations between his campaign and the Sinaloa Cartel leadership. The alleged agreement reportedly involved political commitments in exchange for funding, including promises to prevent DEA interference in Mexico, refrain from combating the Sinaloa Cartel, and allow the organization to continue its operations provided they reduced violence levels.
Villarreal also stated that he facilitated a radio communication between López Obrador and Arturo Beltrán Leyva, who allegedly spoke on behalf of other cartel leaders, including Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada and Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.
