Sergipe expands bovine in vitro fertilization industry
Bovine in vitro fertilization (FIV) is driving a new business chain in Sergipe, Brazil, fueled by increased demand for genetic improvement and the establishment of new laboratories.
The Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), in partnership with Embrapa, is implementing the Center for Animal Reproduction Biotechnology at its Rural Campus in São Cristóvão. This facility will focus on in vitro embryo production, research, professional training, and the preservation of genetic material. Operations are expected to begin between early and mid-2027.
Additionally, a private laboratory for in vitro embryo production is in the final stages of implementation in Aracaju. These developments aim to reduce the state's dependence on services from other regions and create opportunities for specialized veterinary professionals and companies.
