Sergipe Police Arrest Man for Torturing Elderly Mother and Stepfather

The Polícia Civil de Sergipe, through the Delegacia de Atendimento à Mulher e Demais Grupos Vulneráveis (DAGV) in Nossa Senhora do Socorro, executed a preventive arrest warrant on the night of Sunday, 2, against a man suspected of severe domestic violence against his own elderly mother and stepfather. The suspect had previously been detained for violating an urgent protective measure, but returned to the victims' home, subjecting the mother to forced ingestion of a corrosive substance, inflicting oral injuries, and extorting money, while also threatening and assaulting the stepfather, who has a disability. Family members found the mother in a weakened state and took her to a hospital for treatment. Given the gravity of the crimes—torture, extortion and serious bodily injury—the court approved preventive detention, and the suspect remains in police custody pending further legal proceedings.
