Sergipe to Add Codise as Minor Shareholder in Sergas, Revises Gas Concession

The government of the Brazilian state of Sergipe announced plans to include the Companhia de Desenvolvimento Econômico de Sergipe (Codise) as a minority shareholder in the state‑owned gas distributor Sergipe Gás S.A. (Sergas). The move follows the state's recent purchase of the remaining shares of Mitsui Gás e Energia and Norgás, giving it 100 % control, and is part of a broader revision of Sergas’s concession contract that will be presented by early 2027 after a public consultation.

A study commissioned from the Fundação Getúlio Vargas will model the new contract and management framework. Officials said the revised model aims to lower gas tariffs, attract industrial investment and possibly build a gas‑handling station for a new industrial district linked to the Sergipe Águas Profundas (SEAP) project. While preserving Petrobras’s own gas production, the state intends to open third‑party gas from SEAP to competitive markets.
