Turkish Cypriot political candidates announce new election pledges

As the Turkish Cypriot election campaign intensifies, National Unity Party (UBP) candidates and leaders have announced several key initiatives. Mehmet Aktunç, the UBP candidate for Lefkoşa Türk Belediyesi, met with architects and engineers to discuss urban planning. Aktunç emphasized a human-centered approach to city development, focusing on improving quality of life through organized streets and public spaces by collaborating with professional organizations.

Prime Minister Unal Ustel has pledged to resurrect Cyprus Turkish Airlines by 2028 if his party is re-elected. He described the new airline as a strategic public-private partnership intended to boost tourism, enhance transportation, and stabilize flight prices.

In political critiques, UBP Deputy Sunat Atun argued that the current government's actions have already surpassed the economic and administrative promises made by the CTP party. Meanwhile, Serhat Akpınar, a Democratic Party official, called for an end to the isolation of Turkish Cypriot youth, highlighting the challenges they face in international sports, education, and culture.
