Serhat Akpınar calls for justice following Rukiye Tunçer's killing

Serhat Akpınar, General Secretary of the Democratic Party and Member of Parliament, has called for justice and enhanced protections for women following the killing of 35-year-old Rukiye Tunçer. Tunçer was reportedly killed by her husband on the Güzelyurt-Nicosia highway.

Akpınar condemned all forms of physical, psychological, sexual, and economic violence against women, stating that no relationship or dispute justifies such brutality. He emphasized that preventing femicide requires political will and public responsibility, urging for immediate legal regulations regarding domestic violence.

He further called for a more effective system to protect women at risk, ensuring seamless intervention between police and social services. Akpınar demanded that the investigation be conducted swiftly and that the perpetrators receive the maximum legal penalties without the use of mitigating circumstances.
