Serhii Kippa appointed auxiliary bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Brother Serhii Kippa, OFMCap, as the auxiliary bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr in Ukraine. Kippa, who holds the titular see of Marazanae, previously served as the head of the Custody of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin in Ukraine.

Born in Woźniesiensk, Ukraine, Kippa has a background in Turkish language studies and theology. His religious formation included studies in Poland at the Higher Theological Seminary of the Capuchin Order in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. He made his perpetual profession in 2009 and was ordained a priest in May 2010.

In reflections on his appointment, Kippa described the news as an “internal earthquake,” a mixture of anxiety and deep joy. He expressed a desire to serve as a bearer of peace that heals and unites, drawing on his experiences of ministry during wartime.
