Serian Rafting Challenge 2026 to expand international reach
The Serian Rafting Challenge 2026 is set to return on September 26 following a one-year hiatus. Organized by the Serian District Council as part of the Borneo Raft Safari series, the event features a 25-kilometer course along Batang Kayan, starting from Kampung Tema Mawang and ending at Kampung Tebakang Dayak.
As of late August, 80 teams have registered, including international participants, with organizers aiming to reach a total of 100 teams. The competition includes a prize pool of RM17,600. To align with international standards, the 2026 edition has introduced an automatic race timing system and online registration to improve accessibility.
Serian Member of Parliament Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem stated that the goal is to strengthen the event’s foundation and increase its reach without losing its established identity. Serian District Council chairman Dato Peter Minos noted that preparations are on track, though officials are monitoring the haze situation to ensure participant safety. Safety measures include coordination with the Fire and Rescue Department.
