Serie A introduces official silver coin for pre-match toss

Lega Serie A has introduced a new official coin, named ‘Palla o campo’, to be used for the traditional pre-match toss between team captains. The 5-euro silver coin was produced by the Zecca dello Stato in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Designed for the 2026/27 season, the coin will also be part of the 2026 Numismatic Collection of the Italian Republic. The obverse features a football and a whistle pattern, with the word ‘talento’ (talent) inscribed in various Italian dialects. The reverse depicts a stadium with the Lega Serie A pictogram at the center, surrounded by 22 dots representing the players on the pitch. The word ‘squadra’ (team) is also featured in different regional dialects.

Luigi De Siervo, CEO of Lega Serie A, stated that the initiative celebrates one of the most iconic moments in Italian football and represents a union between two Italian excellences.
