Serie A Women to continue using Football Video Support
The 12 clubs of Serie A Women have confirmed the continued experimental use of Football Video Support (FVS) for the 2026-2027 season. Following an online meeting between club representatives and CAN C officials, the technology will remain in place to assist referees in competitions that do not utilize VAR.
FVS allows referees, assisted by a video operator, to review specific match incidents such as goal scoring, penalty decisions, direct red cards, or mistaken identity using a pitchside monitor. A key update for this season is the implementation of additional cameras near the penalty areas, known as the “16-meter” lines, on all playing fields. This enhancement aims to improve production standards and provide better imagery for officiating reviews.
Federica Cappelletti, president of the league, noted that the introduction of FVS has already contributed to a decrease in refereeing errors and player protests, improving the overall quality of the game.
