Two dead and one injured in A20 Palermo‑Messina highway crash near Buonfornello, Sicily

On 27 June a head‑on collision on the A20 Palermo‑Messina highway near Buonfornello killed Gaetano Mollica, 44, of Pettineo, and Francesco Montalto, 45, of Palermo. The crash involved a Ford Kuga that entered the opposite lane during road‑work diversions and struck a Peugeot furgone. Marco Montalto, 35, the furgone driver, was seriously injured and air‑lifted to a Palermo hospital.

In Cutro, Crotone, early on 28 June an 18‑year‑old Salvatore Lukanov lost control of a Volkswagen Golf and slammed into a tree. He died at the scene; two passengers (a 17‑year‑old boy and a 20‑year‑old woman) were hospitalized with non‑life‑threatening injuries.

In Sant’Egidio del Monte Albino, an 11‑year‑old boy was critically injured after being struck by a Volkswagen Golf that fled the scene; he remains in intensive care.

On state road 106 near the EnI refinery in Taranto, a 43‑year‑old driver died when his Lancia Y collided frontally with a Ford Mustang GT. His wife and three children were gravely injured but are out of immediate danger.

Other incidents reported the same day included a two‑senior‑citizen crash on the A21 near Brescia, a camper overturning in Giulianova that injured a family of three, and a multi‑vehicle collision on the Rho‑Milan tangenziale that left four people with injuries. All accidents prompted emergency‑service responses and temporary traffic disruptions.
