Serikin ICQS project reaches 11% completion ahead of schedule

Construction of the Serikin Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex has reached 11 percent completion and is currently running six days ahead of schedule. The RM43.66 million project is a national security initiative aimed at managing activities at the Malaysia-Indonesia border.

During a site visit on September 21, 2026, Deputy Minister Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud noted that while progress is positive, challenges remain regarding the site’s remote location, including limited access to roads, water, electricity, and telecommunications. Addressing these issues requires ongoing coordination between the Federal and Sarawak state governments.

Separately, the Telok Melano border control post project is awaiting the issuance of a Letter of Acceptance following tender evaluations. Once a contractor is appointed, construction is expected to take approximately two years. Mustapha emphasized that border security infrastructure must be fast-tracked under National Security Council directives rather than following standard development processes.
