Serious pedelec accidents in Germany leave one injured and one dead

In Marsberg, North Rhine‑Westphalia, a 28‑year‑old man riding a pedelec fell on a downhill section of the Klusweg near Giershagen at about 11:50 a.m. on Saturday. He sustained severe injuries, was taken by ambulance to hospital and the Hochsauerlandkreis police opened an investigation into the cause of the fall.

In Lübeck, Schleswig‑Holstein, a 68‑year‑old man on a pedelec was struck by an 85‑year‑old driver’s motorhome at the intersection of Padelügger Weg and Lohgerberstraße around 11:25 a.m. on Tuesday. He suffered life‑threatening injuries, was transported with a doctor to hospital and died two days later. Police are probing possible traffic endangerment, negligent homicide and whether the motorhome driver was under the influence of medication, having taken a blood sample and confiscated his licence.
