Serj Tankian releases Bowie cover ahead of System of a Down Australian tour
Serj Tankian, the frontman of System of a Down, appears on a new cover of David Bowie’s 1997 song “I’m Afraid Of Americans”. The track was produced by composer Brendan Angelides (formerly Eskmo) and is issued as the lead single from Angelides’s forthcoming album Can You Feel The End Begin, slated for release on 14 August.
The accompanying video mixes childhood photographs of Tankian and Angelides with motion‑capture and face‑tracking technology, creating a visually striking accompaniment. The collaboration marks Tankian’s second high‑profile guest appearance of 2026, following his contribution to Tom Morello’s “Adjourn It”.
System of a Down has also announced its first Australian headline stadium tour in more than a decade, with Faith No More as a supporting act. The tour will comprise three shows – Sydney on 22 January, Melbourne on 27 January and Brisbane on 1 February 2027 – and tickets are set to go on sale on 31 July. The dates represent the band’s first headline performances on Australian soil since the 2012 Soundwave festival.
