SERNAC inspects airlines at Santiago airport
Chile's National Consumer Service (SERNAC) conducted inspections of airlines at Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Santiago. The operations were carried out ahead of the Fiestas Patrias celebrations to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws.
The inspections focused on whether airlines provide truthful and timely information to passengers. This includes the mandatory availability of informative brochures detailing passenger rights at ticket offices and airport counters. These documents must cover specific scenarios such as flight cancellations, delays, boarding denials due to overbooking, baggage loss or damage, and the restitution of aeronautical fees.
Authorities also verified the presence of required documentation, such as written notices in cases of boarding denial and the visibility of Civil Aeronautics Board (JAC) stickers. SERNAC noted that it maintains permanent monitoring of various markets to detect non-compliance and protect consumer interests through its interpretive circulars for both national and international carriers.
