SERNAC inspects children's entertainment centers in Chile
Chile's National Consumer Service (SERNAC) has launched follow-up inspections of children's entertainment centers across various regions of the country. The initiative aims to verify safety conditions and ensure that companies have corrected deficiencies identified during previous inspections.
Field teams are reviewing compliance with consumer protection laws, focusing on preventing accidents related to playground infrastructure. Key areas of inspection include jumping surfaces, springs, tensioners, metal structures, and transmission systems to ensure they have continuous padding and no exposed points that could cause entrapment, cuts, or fractures.
Additionally, inspectors are checking for the presence of trained monitors or guards to supervise play and assist children in emergencies. The agency is also verifying that facilities display clear, visible signage in Spanish with safety instructions. Carolina González, SERNAC's acting national director, stated that companies must have protocols and prepared personnel, as they are responsible for any damage caused by service deficiencies.
