SERNAC issues safety alerts for Toyota and Peugeot vehicles in Chile

Chile's National Consumer Service (SERNAC) has issued safety alerts for specific Toyota and Peugeot models sold in the country due to potential mechanical defects.

Toyota has alerted owners of 78 RAV4 PHEV units sold between May and October 2026. A defect in the motor-generator electronic control unit may prevent correct initialization, potentially causing the vehicle to enter an emergency driving mode or lose power at high speeds. No accidents related to this issue have been reported.

Separately, Stellantis Chile reported a defect affecting 98 Peugeot 3008 units sold between August and October 2026. The issue involves unnecessary air deflectors in the front bumper grille that can reduce cooling airflow to the engine and the 48V battery. Under heavy loads or high temperatures, this could lead to reduced engine torque or a loss of hybrid functionality. Of the 98 units, 35 are with consumers, 22 are in the distribution chain, and 41 are in stock. No injuries or accidents have been reported.
