SERNAC launches nationwide inspections of aesthetic centers in Chile

The National Consumer Service (SERNAC) has launched a nationwide inspection campaign targeting aesthetic centers across Chile. The initiative, which began on July 28, covers numerous regions including Metropolitana, Biobío, Antofagasta, Valparaíso, and Maule, among others.

The inspections aim to protect consumers from physical and psychological health risks following a significant increase in demand for facial and body aesthetic procedures. Authorities are focusing on several key regulatory areas:

• Information and Consent: Providers must detail service characteristics and risks. Invasive procedures, such as Botox or hyaluronic acid, require written informed consent. Providers cannot use consent forms to exempt themselves from liability for damages. • Safety and Licensing: Establishments must display visible sanitary permits and implement safety measures. • Pricing Transparency: Prices must be displayed in Chilean pesos, including taxes, via physical lists. QR codes are not considered a sufficient replacement for physical price lists. • Advertising Standards: Inspections will target misleading advertisements, particularly those promising guaranteed results, such as “permanent solutions” to wrinkles.
