Sernapesca activates virus control in Aysén salmon farms

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) has activated surveillance and control protocols in the Aysén region following the detection of the Infectious Salmon Anemia (ISA) virus at the Izaza cultivation center. The affected facility is located within the Salmonid Concessions Group (ACS) No. 20.

To prevent the spread of the virus, authorities have implemented sanitary zoning through Exempt Resolution No. 2901/2026, which establishes both an infected zone and a surveillance zone. These measures include restrictions on fish movement, increased frequency of sanitary sampling, and heightened biosecurity requirements.

Sernapesca personnel are conducting field inspections to monitor harvesting, transport, and fish unloading operations to ensure compliance with current sanitary regulations. Daniela Leiva, the regional director of Sernapesca Aysén, stated that the agency will rigorously enforce all established control measures and biosecurity conditions to mitigate the risk of propagation in this economically vital sector.
