Serpa: Unlicensed aircraft lands in field, pilot flees by taxi
Authorities in Serpa, Portugal, are investigating an unusual incident involving an unlicensed aircraft that landed in an agricultural field at Herdade da Lobata on Sunday afternoon.
According to reports, the pilot landed the plane around 1:30 p.m., requested that authorities not be notified, and subsequently left the scene via taxi. The pilot reportedly left behind a wallet containing documents and 2,000 euros in cash. While there were initial suggestions that the aircraft may have suffered a mechanical failure, the circumstances have prompted an investigation by the Polícia Judiciária.
The GNR confirmed the landing but stated they do not currently suspect a crime. However, it was noted that the aircraft has not held a valid flight license since 2017. The case has been referred to the Gabinete de Prevenção e Investigação de Acidentes com Aeronaves e de Acidentes Ferroviários (GPIAAF), which may pursue administrative proceedings against both the pilot and the aircraft owner.
