Serport aims to transform Algeria into a regional logistics hub

Ali Boulaaras, CEO of the state-owned port services group Serport, has outlined a strategic roadmap to transform Algeria into a major logistics hub connecting the Mediterranean and Africa. The plan focuses on modernizing infrastructure, increasing capacity, and implementing digitalization to support the country's growing economy.

Serport reported significant growth in 2025, processing 133 million tonnes of goods (a 4% increase from 2024) and welcoming 16,923 vessels, up 12% from the previous year. Container volume also rose by 19%. To improve operational efficiency, the group is pursuing port specialization; for example, the Port of Mostaganem is now dedicated to import and export operations for public enterprises.

Recent operational changes, including 24-hour operations implemented in March 2025, have already yielded results. Data shows a 24% reduction in vessel waiting times in roads and a 13% decrease in average stay duration. Key locations such as Annaba, Djendjen, Oran, Skikda, and Béjaïa are central to this logistical reorganization.
