Serra da Capivara National Park featured in TV special
The TV Brasil program ‘Caminhos da Reportagem’ is airing a special production by TV Antares dedicated to the Serra da Capivara National Park in Piauí. The episode, titled ‘Serra da Capivara: A Pré-História em Cena’, commemorates Piauí Day by exploring the history and natural beauty of the site.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the park covers approximately 129,000 hectares and contains over 1,000 cataloged archaeological sites. The area is home to rock paintings dating between 3,500 and 12,000 years old, providing evidence of the earliest human inhabitants of the American continent.
The program highlights the legacy of archaeologist Niède Guidon, who spent over five decades researching and protecting the park. Following her death in June 2025, her work continues through colleagues such as archaeologist Gisela Felice.
