Serra da Capivara National Park holds key archaeological evidence

The Serra da Capivara National Park in Piauí, Brazil, remains a critical site for global archaeology. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1991, the park contains hundreds of archaeological sites featuring rock paintings and engravings that provide insight into human presence in the Americas.

Research led by archaeologist Niède Guidon has uncovered evidence suggesting human occupation dating back tens of thousands of years, challenging traditional theories regarding the settlement of the American continent. The rock art found on cliffs and rock formations depicts various aspects of ancient life, including hunting scenes, social interactions, and animals.
