Serra Pelada hosts World Trail Races to boost community tourism

The community of Serra Pelada in Curionópolis, Pará, held the second edition of the World Trail Races (WTR) on Sunday, featuring 4‑km, 6‑km and 10‑km trail runs as well as a Kids Race for children aged 1 to 14. The event, sponsored by Vale through the Federal Law of Sports Incentive, aims to strengthen community‑based tourism, showcase local culture and generate economic activity for residents.

Organisers highlighted projects along the course such as the Bordadeiras de Serra Pelada collective and the Museu de Zé Branquinho. Bruno Queiroz, analyst for Fundação Vale, said, "The WTR Serra Pelada represents more than a race. It is an opportunity to strengthen community‑based tourism, value local identity and reveal the region’s talents, culture and nature."
