Serres celebrates Holy Cross with hierarchical liturgy

A grand hierarchical liturgy was held on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Holy Temple of the Venerable Cross in Serres. The service was led by Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messenia, Metropolitan Damaskinos of Aetolia and Acarnania, and the local Hierarch, Metropolitan Theologos of Serres and Nigrita.

The event drew a large congregation, including local Members of Parliament, the Vice Governor of Serres, the Mayor of Serres, the Commander of the 10th Mechanized Infantry Division, and the President of the Serres Bar Association. During the service, Metropolitan Chrysostomos delivered a theological sermon regarding the mystery of the Cross, describing it as a symbol that transformed from an instrument of suffering and punishment into a symbol of victory, hope, and resurrection.
