Serres: Masked robbers attack elderly couple in home invasion

Three masked individuals broke into a home in the village of Iberia, within the Municipality of Visaltia, Serres, during the early hours of the morning. The perpetrators targeted an elderly couple, aged 78 and 79, while they were sleeping.

Upon being awakened by the noise, the victims were confronted with a screwdriver used as a weapon. When the couple stated they did not have large sums of money, the attackers resorted to physical violence, striking the 79-year-old man. The assailants seized a gold necklace from the woman and searched the residence, eventually fleeing with 500 euros in cash and gold jewelry.

One of the perpetrators was reportedly heard saying, “we had wrong information,” as they fled, suggesting the attackers may have believed the residence contained more significant valuables. The elderly man required medical assistance from emergency services following the assault. Local police departments in Serres are currently investigating the incident to identify and apprehend the suspects.
