Service Learning approach introduced in Potenza schools

The 2026/27 school year in Potenza is beginning with a focus on Service Learning, a pedagogical approach that integrates academic study with solidarity and civic engagement. The IIS ‘Einstein – De Lorenzo’ institute has established itself as a leading school in the Basilicata region for this methodology, working in synergy with the EIS High School of Advanced Training at LUMSA University in Rome.

Professor Italo Fiorin, a national and international expert in Service Learning, recently visited the institute on September 10, 2026. The approach is centered on the motto ‘I Care’, a concept linked to the legacy of Don Lorenzo Milani and the Barbiana School. Unlike the indifference promoted by historical fascist slogans, ‘I Care’ serves as a manifesto for inclusive education, emphasizing civil responsibility, active citizenship, and empathy by encouraging students to apply their skills to solve community problems.
