Servicio Andaluz de Salud processes nearly 1 million treatment renewals via pharmacies

The Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS) has processed 978,269 requests for chronic treatment renewals through community pharmacies between February 17 and September 16, 2026. This initiative utilizes an interprofessional communication tool integrated into the Diraya system, which connects pharmacists directly with Primary Care teams.

The system is designed to improve continuity of care and streamline prescription management by allowing pharmacists to relay requests and prescription issues securely to medical professionals, removing the need for patients to act as intermediaries. While pharmacies facilitate the process, clinical responsibility for prescriptions remains with the appropriate healthcare professional.

During this period, the system recorded 87,740 clinical communications. These were distributed among pharmacists (63,483), doctors (23,762), and nursing staff (495). The activity spans all eight provinces of Andalusia, with significant volumes noted in Sevilla and Málaga.
