Servicio Universal de Salud to open 12,750 clinics in Mexico

The Servicio Universal de Salud (SUS) is launching a major initiative to establish 12,750 primary care clinics across Mexico by January 2027. The project aims to bring medical attention closer to both rural and urban communities through standardized infrastructure and technological integration. Health Secretary David Kershenobich described the initiative as a transformation of healthcare delivery, designed to address acute conditions such as respiratory infections and gastrointestinal diseases.

To support this expansion, a national recruitment drive is underway. In Quintana Roo, the state has joined the call for medical, nursing, and technical personnel. Available monthly salaries include 19,200 pesos for doctors, 13,350 pesos for nursing graduates, and 11,000 pesos for nursing technicians. The application period for these positions runs from September 14, 2026, through October 31, 2026.

Major institutions are participating in the rollout. ISSSTE will contribute 500 clinics focused on chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, while IMSS is integrating the clinics into a preventive strategy. Officials estimate the new network will add approximately 50 million consultations to the existing annual capacity.
