Serwaa Amihere advises women against purchasing counterfeit luxury goods
Media personality and lawyer Serwaa Amihere has urged women to avoid purchasing counterfeit designer items, such as Louis Vuitton and Birkin bags, to project a false sense of wealth. Speaking at The Complete Ignite Woman session organized by the Obuobia Foundation, Amihere stated that wearing counterfeit luxury items to impress others sends the wrong message and can negatively impact professional perceptions.
Amihere encouraged women to be patient and build their financial standing gradually rather than rushing to mimic high-end fashion. She noted the significant price disparity between genuine items, such as a Birkin bag costing over $25,000, and local counterfeits that can be found for as little as GH₵300.
Her remarks have sparked debate on social media. While some supporters agree with her principles, critics have questioned the consistency of her logic, arguing that other forms of artificial enhancements, such as hair, nails, or cosmetic procedures, should be viewed through a similar lens.
