Sesame production grows in northern Tamaulipas

Sesame production in northern Tamaulipas is experiencing significant growth, supported by new commercialization opportunities. The company DIPASA has confirmed it will purchase sesame grain from regional farmers.

According to Leonel Soto Pérez, manager of the Matamoros Local Agricultural Association, farmers with contracts will receive 18,500 pesos per ton, while those without contracts can sell for 18,000 pesos per ton. The harvest will be processed at the “Dr. Francisco Galván Malo” collection center, serving municipalities such as Río Bravo and San Fernando.

The crop has seen a massive expansion in scale; planted area has grown from approximately 60 hectares two years ago to nearly 4,000 hectares in the current agricultural cycle.
