Sesame Workshop launches extreme‑weather program with “Storm on Sesame Street”
Sesame Workshop is rolling out an extreme‑weather response initiative aimed at helping children and families prepare for hurricanes, floods and other severe storms. The centerpiece is a new television special, “Storm on Sesame Street,” which follows Elmo, Abby Cadabby and friends as they ready a big storm, teaching teamwork, kindness and emotional coping. The special premieres on Netflix and PBS Kids on August 3 and will be released on YouTube in September, featuring celebrity guests Post Malone and Michelle Buteau.
Beyond the broadcast, Sesame Workshop is partnering with PBS and local nonprofits to hold disaster‑relief events at libraries, community centers and storm shelters across the United States. Attendees receive Sesame Street‑themed care kits and can access a suite of free educational resources – articles, videos, printable activities and a storybook – on the organization’s website. “Extreme weather is now a reality for many families, and young children need support they can understand and trust,” said Joseph Giraldi, chief operating officer of Sesame Workshop.
