SESAR ARTEMISA project launches to automate European air traffic management
The SESAR ARTEMISA project has officially launched in Brussels to develop next-generation air traffic management (ATM) platforms. The initiative aims to accelerate the deployment of the Digital European Sky by increasing automation and interoperability across the continent's airspace.
With a total budget of 39.28 million euros, the project is 70% funded by SESAR and is scheduled to run for 36 months starting in September 2026. The project is industrially coordinated by Indra and includes eight air navigation service providers from the iTEC collaboration.
A primary goal is to advance automation toward Level 4 as defined by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This would allow systems to autonomously adopt and execute decisions during routine operations under predefined conditions. Additionally, the project will focus on enhancing cybersecurity through a modular and flexible architecture to facilitate the integration of various technologies and platforms.
