Sesto San Giovanni pool closed after floor collapse
The De Gregorio municipal swimming pool in Sesto San Giovanni has been closed following a sudden collapse of the pool floor. The incident occurred on Monday, August 24, 2026, while several users were in the water. Reports indicate that the floor tiles detached and split, creating a large crack in the 25-meter pool.
The municipality stated that the closure is necessary to conduct technical inspections, identify the causes of the failure, and plan repairs. Officials noted that there are currently no indications of structural damage to the building itself.
The event has drawn criticism from local political opposition, including the Democratic Party (PD), which highlighted that the facility underwent significant redevelopment and reopened only four years ago under a management concession. Concerns have been raised regarding the quality of the previous renovation works, the safety of the facility, and the impact on staff and local swimming programs scheduled to resume in September.
