Sestri Levante to host inaugural Festival Mare
The first edition of Festival Mare is scheduled to take place in Sestri Levante from Friday, October 16, to Sunday, October 18, 2026. The three-day event focuses on the environment, culture, scientific dissemination, and local traditions.
Organized by Mediaterraneo Servizi in collaboration with two graduate students from the University of Genoa’s Department of Architecture and Design, the festival is supported by the Municipality of Sestri Levante, Europe Direct Tigullio, and the Italian Representation of the European Commission. The program includes cultural activities through partnerships with RIFF and the Musel city museum, as well as culinary traditions featuring dedicated menus from participating restaurants.
The festival opens on October 16 with an extraordinary cleaning of the seabed beneath the port pier. This operation involves local associations, the Sestri Levante Coast Guard, and underwater monitoring by the 5th Underwater Nucleus of the Genoa Maritime Directorate. The activity will be presented live by biologist Francesca Salini to provide educational opportunities for students and the public.
