Setagaya residential renovation focuses on book-centric living
A residential renovation project in Kamikitazawa, Setagaya City, has been completed to create an ideal living environment centered around books. The project, carried out in 2022 on an eight-year-old detached house, focused on resolving layout and storage challenges to create a bright, open space.
Key design updates included replacing siding with painted walls and adding natural wood accents to the exterior. The interior features a second-floor living area where walls were removed to create a seamless flow, utilizing a staircase integrated with bookshelves to provide gentle spatial division. To maintain a sense of openness, the bookshelves were designed without back panels.
Additional functional improvements included a study space with custom counters, a redesigned washroom area to maximize utility, and the integration of storage solutions such as drawers within the stair risers.
