Setúbal and Alvalade host historical cultural commemorations

Various cultural and historical commemorations took place in Portugal. In Setúbal, a ceremony and parade were held to mark the 100th anniversary of the municipality's elevation to District Capital in 1926. Approximately 500 participants joined the procession, which included municipal delegations and local associations, to symbolically carry the original proclamation edict to Praça de Bocage. During the event, the edict was reenacted, and the first civil governor's inauguration was simulated. Vice-president of the Setúbal Municipal Council, Maria do Carmo Tiago, noted the historical importance of the decision for the region's economic and social development.

In the village of Alvalade, located in the Santiago do Cacém municipality, the Alvalade Medieval festival concluded its 2026 edition. The three-day event focused on the theme ‘From Sickness to Cure,’ exploring historical healthcare through recreations inspired by the old Hospital do Espírito Santo. The final day featured a medieval market and a procession in honor of King Manuel I, with artisans and merchants displaying regional products in the town square.
