Setúbal Fair Attracts 300,000 Visitors, Highlights Sustainability

The 2026 edition of the Feira de Sant’Iago in Setúbal ran from 23 July to 2 August, drawing about 300,000 attendees. Under the theme “Setúbal, Capital Natural,” the municipal services (SMS) organised interactive activities to promote sustainable behaviour.

Visitors used a water‑footprint calculator developed with the Portuguese Water Resources Association, played a digital game that challenged them to separate bio‑waste in two minutes, and could collect their own waste in bags provided at the “house of waste.” The event closed with a tasting of flavored tap water, encouraging use of public water supplies. An exhibition highlighted the history of Setúbal’s municipal services as they approach their centenary in 2028. The fair, the largest of its type south of the Tagus River, served as a showcase for the city’s culture, economy and identity.
