Setúbal’s Praia da Figueirinha rock removal work restricts beach access

The Câmara Municipal de Setúbal has begun the second phase of a three‑week operation to remove unstable rocks from the slope of Praia da Figueirinha, near the western tunnel. The work follows a meeting between the contractor Mota‑Engil and several municipal departments after heavy weather earlier in the year caused rocks to become lodged in protective nets or to sit precariously on the hillside.

For safety reasons, the section of the beach adjacent to the tunnel is closed to the public from Monday to Friday while the removal proceeds. After the rocks are cleared, the municipality plans to convert the closed stretch of Rua Círio da Arrábida into a parking area for motorcycles and concession‑aire vehicles.

The closure and rock‑removal effort aim to protect beach users and minimise the risk of rock falls during the three‑week period.
