Setembro Amarelo: Mental health awareness campaigns launch in Brazil and Portugal

Various public health and social institutions in Brazil and Portugal are conducting initiatives for ‘Setembro Amarelo’ (Yellow September), a campaign dedicated to suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

In Brazil, municipal health secretariats in cities such as Feira de Santana, Jaguariúna, and Balneário Camboriú are organizing workshops, lectures, and listening circles to promote emotional well-being. Specific actions include support for pregnant women’s emotional health and specialized programs for the elderly. In Campina Grande, the Procon agency is addressing the link between financial debt and mental distress, while Natal has illuminated public monuments in yellow to increase visibility for the cause.

In Portugal, the Psychogerontology Unit of the Algarve is hosting events like ‘Chá de Afetos’ to combat loneliness and support social networks for the elderly. Other regional efforts include symposiums in João Monlevade and educational programs in Araguaína focused on positive parenting and non-violent education.
