SETI Researchers Reanalyse Archived Telescope Data for Alien Signals Outside Water Hole
Scientists involved in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) are reexamining existing telescope archives to look for narrow‑band radio signals in frequency ranges that have rarely been explored. The new method focuses on parts of the spectrum beyond the traditional "water hole" (1.42–1.66 GHz) that SETI has historically targeted. Astronomer Louisa Mason led the analysis of observations previously recorded by the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile, expanding the search to frequencies that SETI programs have largely ignored. Researchers argue that these older data sets may already contain transmissions from distant civilizations that were never examined under this new perspective.
